I am an artist and arts facilitator based in Newcastle upon Tyne. My key interests are pattern and repetition, colour theory and the everyday object. These interests are explored in very different ways within the workshops I deliver. I currently am employed as a lead artist at The HUB studio in Newcastle City Centre, where I deliver workshops for adults with learning disabilities and those on the autistic spectrum. The aim of the workshops is to promote a sense of inclusion, equality, pride and achievement as well as giving individuals the tools to explore and to express themselves creatively.
I am also a Freelance Artist at BALTIC Centre of Contemporary Art, working in experimental and playful ways with large school groups, families, individuals seeking sanctuary and those from refugee backgrounds.
My approach to the workshops is to choose a theme, and then work out many different adapted activities around this. The work is then brought together for displays and publications. This creates a sense of creative community, as everyone feels like they are working together and building meaningful friendships, while working in a way that is appropriate to their individual needs, interests and abilities.
